Lawn Seeding: How to Plant Grass Seed - Greenview

Fescue, a cool season grass but declines in the summer heat. Germinates fast and is good for erosion control. Stays green all year and holds up to foot traffic. Needs watered frequently during hot summer months. Also needs overseeding and supplement the areas weakened by the heat. After sowing, keep seed bed moist at all times until the seeds germinate. Mow at 2.4 to 4, if you mow lower than this it could die.

Rye, this grass is used to control soil erosion, for grazing and hay. The two types are annual and perrenial. Annual rye grass is used for instant green coverage, fill in on new lawns and for overseeding warm or cool season grasses. Perrenial rye grass has quick germination, shiny green color and dense forming sod.  Rye grass can be sown without having to till, dig or scarifying the soil. Steps for faster establishment is watering and fertilizing before or after sowing. 

Bermuda, a warm season grass. Deep - rooted sod forming grass that spreads by rhizomes and stolons. Productive during the hot summer months. Drought tolerant. Responsive to nitrogen  fertilizer and potash. This is important for forage and winter hardiness. Has a high wear tolerance and quick recovery. 

Kentucky bluegrass, blooms from may to august. Spreads by rhizomes that grows sideways in the ground. This is a perrenial grass, so it lives longer than one year. Grows one to three feet tall. Clusters of greenish flowers grows at the top of the stems.
